Some months back.. I noticed some graffiti that made me look twice- I had to check I had read it correctly..
Written on the wall were the words ‘Hate breeds hate”
I was intrigued… Who wrote that?!
I imagined a frustrated philosophical construction worker etching his thoughts on the placard…
Then a few months later I noticed another one late at night coming home in a taxi … the same style of writing. on another temporary placard… I was beginning to notice a pattern!
and so, it began… a curiosity into these words, where they came from, and what they mean…
Whizzing around a corner in the back of a taxi rushing to a rehearsal in Tecom or home to my old flat in Barsha, these phrases would jump out from time to time, and for a few minutes I’d find myself pondering over the statement and its meaning..
One thing I have noticed is that this guy or girl chooses not to write on any public property, (wise choice as it would be painted over in no time!)
These bold statements etched onto temporary surfaces- wherever they come from- make refreshing food for thought in stark contrast to the billboards and dazzling towers, adding an inspirational touch of satirical humour and philosophy to the construction sites of the Tecom and Barsha area
I posted this one to facebook:
and found that others too were noticing the graffiti..
And then a friend forwarded me a link to a Tumblr site collection of the graffiti- captures some great moments-check it out:
So I will leave you with some of my favourite shots of the the grafitti from the Tumblr blog… (but do check the link properly for many more and larger viewing size!
May the inspiration continue!
