You would think that listening to the same music over and over again from the original stems to the final recording over months and months would lead to intense annoyance and distaste, but I honestly can’t stop listening to “Origin”, Rami Lakkis’ debut album. Forget that he is my husband, without being biased- this is a hard hitting, eclectic, unique and musically exciting album.
For those who don’t know, Rami is a [rather good] bass player. He wrote the music, and then recorded it live at Tone Town Studios in Dubai, featuring some [also rather good] musicians: Rony Afif on drums, Samvel Gasparyan on keys, Artur Grigoryan on alto sax and Jino Kim on alto sax.
I won’t attempt to describe the sound, I will leave that for the music journalists. But if you like fusion, if you like odd enticing rhythms, if you like harmonies that paint many colours, if you like to witness the sound of a bunch of great musicians indulging in a delightful conversation; then I think you will like this album.
The best way is to listen for yourself, and for a taster of the sound, you can check out Rami’s sound cloud. Here are a few favourites:
They’re all worth a listen though! ;)
And lastly, it’s actually the man’s birthday today- so if you would like to support good independent music, grab yourself a great album and put a smile on Rami’s face today for his big 3-0 (!)- Here is the link to his band camp where you can purchase the album for your self or as a gift to someone that you know loves good music:
