3 days until my 5 week trip to the UK (which I’m V.Excited about), so thought I’d dedicate a blog to some underground soul sistas from the UK that I’ve been inspired by
When I lived in London I was blown away by the talent, style and the unique approach to music… intelligent poetic lyrics fused with soul, funk, hip-hop, Jazz, breaks, Electronica.. From that experimental soul scene is pretty much where my musical style accelerated and where I continue to seek inspiration.
Female talent from the UK has been smashin it globally for a few years now- Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Estelle, Floetry … and most recently Jessy J and Adele… British girls are on fyahhh!
But like any metropolis, there is still a lot of talent that remains underground, that you might not have heard of yet… and I feel like you should know about them!
So let me draw your ears to some girls, some I know, some I’ve seen live or heard on the grapevine.. (I mean.. there are loads more too!)- but here are just a few personal favourites
You might be in the know already, but for those who don’t know- now you know!
Support real talent people!
Hauntingly soulful voice… simply beautiful!
You can’t help but adore this girl. Babysol works a lot with Colin Emmanuel (who has produced a lot of my songs- Lost Soul, Sublime & Lets Go!) Very unique oldschool sounding voice, tons of energy and really charismatic performance! She needs to blow up!
and her brand new video! —>>>
3. YARAH BRAVO
My girl! Technically not from the UK.. but like me, she’s from everywhere and Yarah’s been based in London for years now. A truly universal talent!
We met in London and started performing live together 4 years ago. We’ve rocked stages all over Europe together and had some mad fun and adventures along the way..
A sister and a friend that happens to be the dopest performer I’ve ever rolled with! I’ve seen her upstage very famous male rappers that will go unnamed … (and I’m not the only one who would testify that! )
Yarah’s album drops soon and she will take over the world soon, so be the first to know about it
I used to follow Rahel on myspace and recently re-discovered her on facebook (ya gots to love the internet). Very happy to see she’s still making music, because her voice, music, style.. girl is seriously on point and you can really vibe and chill to her music. Just listen to hear what I mean
I discovered this girl through a blog last year. WOW. what a voice. She kills it on the scene and is really doing her thing. But I still feel she is massively underrated!
Listen to this beautiful amazing version of “Oddysey” live to hear what I mean about.. wow
Well, hope you all enjoyed!
New music from moi is coming soon. Writing and recording a lot over the Summer!!
May the UK chronicles begin
